A year in the life of Feng Shui Consultant in the modern world
I get asked all the time, mostly by potential new students, “Is it possible to earn a good living by having a career in Feng Shui and Chinese Metaphysics?”
Nearly 30 years ago I asked myself the very same thing. I remember how I felt so compelled to study this ancient practice, and yet, I couldn’t imagine turning my passion into a thriving business. I didn’t personally know of any really successful Feng Shui consultants or Astrologers who made a good living but I was reading about them and knew they were out there.
I felt the secrets of the universe were embedded in the ancient studies of Feng Shui and Astrology and I yearned to discover and gain more knowledge.
But learning metaphysics is one thing, and paying the bills is another. I consider myself to be both practical and intuitive, in other words, I need to feel it but it also needs to make sense.
In my mid 30’s, I was at a crossroads in my life, and wondering what direction to move forward in. I deeply pondered this thought and a voice as clear as a bell in my head asked me “Are you going to wait till you are retired to do what you love?” And with that the decision was made! I decided to go and study Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology in depth for a year, invest my time and savings and would continue along the way to figure out a business plan and to turn that into a business. If at the end of that year I didn’t have a plan or meet people who were successful with a full time practice, I was going to go sell cars (that was actually what I thought).
There were no local classical Feng Shui classes happening in Vancouver. I researched and found a Mastery Feng Shui Practitioner’s Course that was taught in English over 5 modules. I had to travel to take these classes. Over the course of a year, I flew to San Francisco, New York, Italy and Holland. I met people who had successful practices, and while I knew it wouldn’t be easy, I felt it was possible. The rest is history.
I learned what it means to be in flow, to trust my higher self, and to use my spiritual studies along with Feng Shui and Astrology as tools to continually improve my life. I was asked to teach, and I taught what I had learned. I believed with all my heart, and still do, that everyone would use Feng Shui and Astrology if they only knew how we are energy beings connected to the energy of the world and time around us. That there is a way to use this energy to change and support your life. It was pretty basic, I used flip charts and did mini readings for people. Local metaphysical stores brought me in to do evening classes. I spoke at real estate offices, I taught what is real Feng Shui and why it matters to the Asian Real Estate Market so much. And with that my business grew.
Why did my business grow? Because I genuinely want to help people live better lives. I want to share what I know. “If you do better, we all do better”. I genuinely believe that.
Today, my business is much like it has been for the last 20 years. I teach and I provide consultations – both Feng Shui consultations (Residential and Commercial spaces) as well as astrological readings (Chinese BaZi). My classes are geared for anyone who wants to live a better life, at any level from beginner to advanced studies. I teach everything from Chinese Astrology (Metaphysics), Tarot, How to develop your Intuition, and of course, all the levels to do with Feng Shui.
My Practitioner’s Course is now a one year program that is comprised of 3 separate in-depth modules and is supported by 1:1 mentoring by myself and senior students throughout the modules and prepares you for your exam and certification if you wish to attain that. Modules One & Two are both online self-study courses with the mentoring and Module 3 is live online and in-person case studies next summer.
Feb 1 – Apr 15 Module One (Recommended Self Study schedule)
April 16 – June 30 Module Two. (Recommended Self Study Schedule)
July 18-21 & 26-29 Module Three
Studies/Mentoring and Exam to be completed by Dec 31, 2021.

Back to the question – “Is it possible to make a good living as a Feng Shui practitioner and Astrologer?” The answer is Yes, most definitely. What is required?
You need to like people. You are goal oriented. You are curious, optimistic and willing to take action to improve your own life. You are willing to put in the time to study the material and then practice what you learn. You like problem solving. You understand that it takes time – to learn anything well and are able to put time aside to learn this.
I love my job. They say when you love what you do it never feels like work and while that’s not true 100% of the time for me, it’s true most of the time. I wake up happy. I get to meet the most interesting people.
