About Marlyna – Her Personal Story, Education and Summary of Experience

Marlyna Los is an internationally renowned Classically Trained Feng Shui Expert.
Marlyna creates optimal business and residential spaces that support your visions and maximize your potential so that you can thrive.  Marlyna’s work with business clients gives them a competitive edge, improves sales, increases market share, increases stability, and addresses and improves negative staff issues (illness, lack of productivity, interpersonal relationships).  Marlyna’s work with residential clients gives them a home that supports well-being and improves their life to bring increased energy, increased financial opportunities and security, improved relationships and health.
Marlyna says that contrary to popular belief, Feng Shui is not a superstitious, new age belief system, but an important scientific reference for the planning and designs for all buildings. And in North America, there is a growing demand for developers, architects and designers to apply the concepts of Feng Shui to their work particularly to work with and attract the Asian market. Feng Shui (using the classical concepts) involves analysis and calculations of the exterior landscape, the building itself, the people who inhabit and use the space and the effects of time.
Marlyna is a recognized educator, speaker and consultant.  She was recently featured in a full-page article in The Province in addition to Global TV News, The Globe and Mail and BC Living.  She was a featured speaker at the large building expo Buildex in 2012 with a lecture on “Understanding Feng Shui and the Chinese Real Estate Market”.  Marlyna has been consulting internationally since 1999, working with developers, businesses, architects, designers, decorators and homeowners.
She is the founder of the East West Academy of Feng Shui, a school that teaches Classical Feng Shui.  She teaches beginner to advanced classes on all aspects of Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology, Face Reading and I Ching. Marlyna has given over 300 local and international public lectures.  She has trained* with Masters of Feng Shui in Canada, United States, Italy, Australia, Hong Kong, China (Chong Qing, Beijing, Shanghai), and the Netherlands. Her most recent travels (2011 and 2012) have been to Malaysia and Thailand to study with Joey Yap, the world’s preeminent Feng Shui Master.  He wrote the glowing foreword in her new book FENG SHUI  – DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE?  She was one of 6 to graduate from his Advanced Practitioners Course with distinction. (*See below for Marlyna’s story on how she evolved to a Feng Shui master)

My personal story

I am someone who asks questions.  I have always had a passionate curiosity about life and have always wondered why is life the way it is? For more than 30 years I have researched philosophies, metaphysics, ancient studies, religions, and psychology – anything that addresses the question of what cosmic and earthly forces create and influences our lives and destiny?
Since 1995 it is Asian Metaphysics, particularly Feng Shui that has captured my interest. It is fortunate that the first Feng Shui book I read was based on the Classical and Traditional teachings.  I learned that thousands of years ago, the ancient Asian scholars observed how the forces of time and space are interconnected.  I learned that according to Feng Shui, our life and destiny are interdependent upon these forces. I learned that the Chinese traced success and failure not only to their actions but also to the forces of the Earth.  I learned the concept that we are all part of a greater whole with the forces of Heaven and Earth interacting with Humanity in the middle. I discovered that what I had been describing as a feeling the Chinese describe as Feng Shui.  I was hooked – here lay the answers to many of my questions.  I read that correct or good Feng Shui in our homes and businesses enhances our happiness and our lives. This knowledge excites me to this day.
I did not set out in life to be a Feng Shui practitioner.  I studied Feng Shui initially as a way to understand and improve my own life.  I learned as my studies evolved that it is my path to bring Feng Shui knowledge and concepts to the world.  My life is now one of creating awareness of and improving surroundings, and in so doing; all of our lives are enhanced.  With awareness comes choice and with choice comes change.

2011

  • October – San Francisco Feng Shui 1 and 2 with Joey Yap, Mastery Academy.

I went to San Francisco to meet Joey Yap. I had for years been looking for a new teacher. I had heard of him for years, but was not sure whether to commit to taking his classes or not. He is expensive and I have been disappointed before by Asian masters, promising a great class, charging a lot of money and then in the class having favourites and with-holding information. Traditionally the higher levels of Feng Shui and Metaphysical knowledge have only been passed down very secretly from Asian Master to honoured family member or student.   Being a woman, Vancouver born, non-Asian and someone who doesn’t speak Mandarin (I cannot read the original classics), I have been at a disadvantage of getting to the roots and advanced levels of Feng Shui.  This changed with meeting Joey Yap. He has the ability (it truly takes a special mind) to penetrate the messages embedded within the classics and he is teaching to those willing to learn (and pay) that knowledge.  Using Feng Shui knowledge and principles he was a self made millionaire by 26.  He is committed to taking the New Age and trinkets out of Feng Shui and to bring to the world the true classical knowledge in the field of Chinese Metaphysics and Arts.    He is truly a phenomenon; he is the #1 Feng Shui Consultant in the world.  He has written over 100 books, he has over 300,000 Facebook friends. He travels the world offering his expertise and knowledge to the world’s elite, on personal, residential, business and large construction projects.

  • November 2011- I travelled to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to take Feng Shui Modules 3 and 4.  This was a 10-day class. There were 50 people in the class from all over the world. ; I was one of 6 to graduate with distinction.   This was the most difficult class I have ever taken. The days were long. The first few days were theory; the last days were site visits and test questions that went on into the hours of the night in our groups of eight, reading and reviewing formula and then relating this to our observations.  Joey promised me that I would learn to see Qi if I went to Malaysia to take this course, that he would teach me with his personal examples, and that he would show how Feng Shui is really practiced at his level. Joey delivered on his promise.  It is difficult to quantify how much I learned. I had already been studying Feng Shui for years and yet I felt as if a brand new doors and deeper meanings and applications had opened for me.  It was very exciting.

2012

  • January to March: BaZi Modules 1 and 2 online Course with Mastery Academy
  • April – Travelled to Thailand for BaZi 5 with Joey Yap
    • Course included – Using Chinese astrology for coaching to transform lives
    • BaZi Financial Studies
    • Synastries: The BaZi of Personal Relationships
    • BaZi for Health Analysis
    • World Event Analysis
    • November – Travelled to Malaysia for BaZi Modules 3 and 4 with Mastery Academy – instructors were Joey Yap, Jessie Lee, Sherwin Ng

I decided to further my studies with Joey Yap in 2012 by taking his full Chinese Astrology course BaZi modules 1-5. I wanted to learn more. I wanted to understand the different viewpoints of my various teachers and decide for myself what interpretations to take.  Joey separates Chinese Astrology BaZi from Feng Shui.   The fields of Feng Shui and Chinese Astrology are huge, with several classics in each field.  The original text books are written in Mandarin and prose, as a result each master has their own focus and particular area that they specialize in.  There is much discussion and debate at elite levels of practice on the use of the Chinese calendar. The Chinese calendar is based on Lunar and Solar cycles. Lily Chung uses the Lunar Calendar, Joey Yap uses the solar calendar. I wanted to learn the validity of each system.  There were 80 students in attendance at Modules 3 and 4, with at least 30 from various corners of the world; there were 35 of us who took the exam.  Again, a very challenging and long 10 days, much of the teaching was directed to application in business.  I learned deeper levels of how to use the effects and energy of time to our advantage for business and personal use. I learned in-depth levels of character and personality analysis based on the birth chart.  I learned what people are best skilled at based on their charts, (research, networking, branding, performing, writing, etc.) I learned how to see what are obvious versus hidden skills waiting to be developed.  I learned a pictorial method of looking at the birth chart and time; personally I love this method.
Everything in Asian Metaphysics is expressed in Yin and Yang and Five Element Theory.  There are 10 signs that influence your life, Yin and Yang Wood, Yin and Yang Fire, Yin and Yang Earth, Yin and Yang Metal and Yin and Yang Water.  The pictorial method draws a picture of your life at any given time. Let’s say your chart is ruled by Yang Fire – the Sun; are you born at night or during the day – can anyone see you?   If you are Yang Metal, in order to become a sword you need fire to be forged. Is there fire in the chart?  Are you stubborn – Yang Wood a tree, or Yang Earth a mountain, or Yang Metal a sword? What is the temperature of your chart and hence life, is it cold or hot? What can you do to change these effects? Awareness is always the first step and Feng Shui and the right action is the remedy.  I love using this method when I talk to people about their charts and personalities and this effects of time, by determining what elements are needed to create harmony in your life I introduce them into your living and work space with Feng Shui applications.
And finally the best thing I took away from my classes with Joey Yap are the world class connections and friendships I have made.

Other Education and Personal Experience

  • 2000 – Italy – 5 day Face Reading Course. In addition I have over the year  read approx. 30 books on Face Reading.
  • 1995 – 1998.  Western Astrology with the London School of Astrology – Three-year in depth correspondence course.  Prior to this course I read approx. 200 books on Western Astrology.   I am an adept Western Astrologer.
  • 1993 – 2002 – I worked in Victoria BC managing three buildings that housed Hard to House adults with Mental, Drug and Alcohol Issues. We had 3 buildings with 70 units of housing. I worked to create private public partnerships with various levels of government to create supported housing.  My main focus was with one particular building (The Apple) where we housed primarily hard to house schizophrenics with more than one diagnosis. These were people who were literally fallen in the cracks as they multiple issues would prevent them from getting help, support and better housing.  During this time I sat on various boards at all levels of the private and public sector to bring awareness and support to those with mental illness and drug and alcohol issues.  I am proud to have been a part of a group that lobbied to have the first BC legislation passed that allowed restaurants, caterer’s and grocery stores to donate food without fear of liability, (The Food Donor Encouragement Act – 1997).
  • In addition, I spent many years reading and learning in my spare time while I was married and not married and raising three children.  When my children were young I volunteered at the local little league, eventually spending three years as League President. I have three grown children, two boys and a girl. My oldest son Nathan is an incredible artist who uses his talents as a world class Tattoo Artist. My son Graham is a manager in the transportation business.  My daughter Morgan is a civil engineer working currently on a hydro dam project.
  • I was born and raised in Vancouver, lived in the late 70’s and early 80’s in Saskatoon and Regina, moved to Victoria BC 1983 – 2004. I lived in Australia 2004 and 2005, a wonderful small town called Warrnambool in Victoria at the end of the Great Ocean Rd.  Since 2006 home is Vancouver B.C.
