Month of the Wood Horse | Jia Wu | A Beacon for Hope

The unknown is not the enemy; it is a doorway.

Hello Dear Friends,

So much to talk about—

On June 5th, the Wood Horse month formally arrives.  This is no ordinary month., It is a Fire month within a Fire year, within a 20-year Fire period.

Across the ancient world, the Sun and Fire were revered not merely as celestial forces, but as visible expressions of life, order and divine intelligence. Through direct observation and lived experience, early cultures understood that the Sun governed time, seasons, fertility and consciousness itself.

Collectively, we are living through a time of illumination and accelerated change. Fire shines a light on what was once hidden making old patterns and uncomfortable truths increasingly harder to ignore.

The Wood Horse carries the image of a tree on fire—a torch. A beacon.  A flame so bright, it can’t be ignored. While the torch illuminates the path ahead, it also reminds us that each of us has the capacity to “be the light” not only for ourselves, but for others the purpose of this torch is to light the way, bringing like-minded people together in service of a greater purpose.

This energy is passionate, charismatic, intense and fast- moving. It can inspire innovation, courage and meaningful change, yet when left unchecked it can also create overwhelm, reactivity or burnout. The invitation is not fear—it is awareness. Both collectively and personally, we are being asked to look honestly at what is asking in our lives to evolve. Sometimes this feels exciting. Sometimes uncomfortable. Often, it is both.

We are living within a larger cycle where Fire—the energy of visibility, consciousness and transformation—is increasingly shaping our world. This month reflects that process in concentrated form.

And so perhaps the question becomes: What thoughts, emotions and behaviours am I feeding? What deserves my energy, attention and life force—and what no longer does?

The unknown is not the enemy. It is the very doorway through which greater clarity, purpose and possibility arrive. You can’t change what you don’t first acknowledge.  This is the work.  What is being revealed for you to see, what story no longer fits? This is something we will be exploring more deeply in Living With purpose this month on June 7th https://marlynaconsulting.com/living-with-purpose/

Fire is a fascinating element because it does what no other element can do—it transforms. It reveals. It changes the nature of all it touches. We are no longer preparing for the future—we are living inside it. This month, we are invited to become more intentional about where we direct our energy and what we are feeding with our thoughts, attention and actions.

In Chinese Medicine Fire rules the heart.  Excess fire may literally cause health and heart-related issues, but more importantly, the fire is revealing where we are not in alignment with our heart.

The ancient wisdom of the Hopi prophecy reminds us: “We are the ones we have been waiting for.” This speaks to personal responsibility and conscious participation. The current of change is already moving. The question is not whether life is changing—but how we choose to meet it. When direction is clear, momentum becomes an ally. When direction is unclear, momentum can carry us somewhere we never intended to go.

The deeper work of this month is learning how to move with power without losing centre.

In the language of the I Ching, this month is reflected in Hexagram #1 Heaven / Creation.

Once something is cleared, energy returns. This is forward movement—momentum, visibility, opportunity.

But Fire as alchemy works both ways. It can refine—or distort.

Fire brings illumination, but illumination alone is not wisdom. What becomes visible still requires discernment.

Movement without insight leads to reaction.

Movement with insight leads to aligned creation.

This is where leadership matters — not just in action, but in awareness.

  • Pay attention – the universal is speaking, what is it trying to guide you towards?
  • Notice where you live in fear, ask yourself what can I do to create more trust in my life?
  • Notice the choices you make every day – what fuels you and what drains you?
  • Act from purpose rather than reaction.
  • Choose  the ‘middle way’ … come from the heart.

Ji (己) Earth
Success comes through coordination and clear priorities. Avoid trying to please everyone or overcomplicate what should be simple. Focus on what truly matters and direct your resources wisely.

Wu (戊) Earth
Preparation matters more than pressure. Test your ideas, refine your approach, and stay adaptable. This is a month to strengthen your skills and strategy so you are ready when opportunities appear.

Ding (丁) Fire
Conversations and shared insight can be valuable now, but too much input may create confusion. Be selective about where you place your attention and protect your focus.

Bing (丙) Fire
Collaboration and observation may reveal new possibilities. Watch what others are doing, learn from the market and trust that refinement is part of progress.

Yi (乙) Wood
Innovation grows through curiosity. Look beyond familiar methods and remain open to learning from unexpected places—but stay grounded in your own direction.

Jia (甲) Wood
Collective energy is powerful this month. The people around you will influence your emotions and momentum. Choose your environment carefully and surround yourself with those who support growth and clarity.

Gui (癸) Water
This is a strong period for visibility and promotion. Attraction can work in your favour, but credibility matters. Build trust that lasts beyond the excitement of the moment.

Ren (壬) Water
Ideas need real-world testing. Waiting for perfect conditions may delay progress. Take thoughtful action and allow experience to guide refinement.

Xin (辛) Metal
Preparation may now be giving way to action. If you have done the work, trust your foundation and move forward. Doubt often appears before meaningful growth.

Geng (庚) Metal
Growth requires ongoing refinement. Strengthen what you already do well rather than chasing every opportunity. Patience and steady improvement create lasting success.

This is a month is one that rewards self-honesty and courage.

May this month bring you insight, steady courage, and the wisdom to move with both passion and awareness. The torch illuminates whatever stands before it. The question is: what will you choose to shine your light on?

With you in this journey called life…
