Understanding the Feng Shui of Love and Relationships

Happy Valentine’s Day… or is it?

Some people love this day and for others, this is a lonely and tough day.

And in my experience, regardless of how they feel about the day, everybody wants love in their life.

After financial concerns, love is the most requested desire and wish my Feng Shui clients and students want in their lives.

Since today is Valentine’s Day, I think it’s the perfect day to write about love and relationships.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had juicy, passionate, respectful love lives? (Hint: Feng Shui can help!)

Today, I want to give you some Feng Shui tips on how you can improve your love life and attract a partner.

And in order to do that, you need to understand how the laws of metaphysics and Yin and Yang apply to relationships and what the real key to happiness and success is.

Essentially, you can improve your love life and attract a partner once you understand how energy works.

Think of it this way… if you want something new in your life like a relationship or more money, what you actually want is new energy in your life.

How do we get new energy? How is energy created? We look to Yin and Yang for the answer.

At the heart of Chinese Metaphysics is the theory of Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang refer to two types of primordial energy moving and unmoving, active and passive, masculine and feminine.

It is in the flow and balance of Yang and Yin (male and female) that fertility (something new) is created, whether it is love, a baby, or abundance.

In today’s world, Yin and Yang are out of balance, the effects of which are easily seen in our high divorce rates.

For energy to be created and sustained in long-term romantic relationships, there must be a flow and balance of Yin and Yang forces. In other words, there needs to be an exchange of leading and receiving energy.

For example, I often consult with strong alpha women who are looking for a long-term romantic relationship and complain they only attract quiet, passive men and when they do attract a strong, alpha guy, the relationship doesn’t go further.

I advise these strong and powerful women about how energy works for a relationship to work and the need for an exchange of leading and receiving forces, “At home, there needs to be “dance. You have to take turns being Yin and receptive and not be the CEO at home. When both people at home want to be the boss, the cycle of Yin and Yang is not in harmony and energy is not created or peaceful.”

So, besides adjusting your life to be more balanced (more Yin or Yang), what else can you do to activate and create love in your life for 2017?

Focus on the Feng Shui of your bedroom.

For example, the effects of unbalanced energy or Qi, like the effects of sleep loss, are usually very subtle, and they can occur over time.
When you don’t sleep well, your whole being is eventually affected.Your body may begin to ache, your mind may become unclear, and your emotions become despondent.

The balance of Yin and Yang and the quality of Qi in a bedroom has a direct impact on how well you sleep and hence on how you feel and act.

A bedroom with good Feng Shui will support and improve your health and relationships with loved ones as well as colleagues. If you consider that you spend one-third of your life sleeping, it is easy to understand why a bedroom is a significant space.

Your overall energy, vitality, and clarity of thinking are directly influenced by how well you sleep. Therefore, the Feng Shui of a bedroom must be suitable for rest and relaxation first.

You want your home’s bedrooms to be filled with the right kind of Qi so that the occupants’ energy is replenished daily. To ensure this occurs, the room first needs to have more Yin than Yang attributes.

Sleeping is a Yin activity; however, it should not be so Yin that it becomes dark and gloomy. Also avoid having too many Yang factors such as abundant or overly large windows, bright colours, accessories with complex designs, ornate furniture, and obvious circular shapes.

Things to avoid:

  • Sleeping under beams, slanted or uneven ceilings.
  • Positioning the bed in direct line with the door
  • Positioning the bed directly over the garage
  • Irregular shaped room

The relative size of the bedroom is important. The room should not be too small and cramped or be too large; balance is the key.

Ancient Feng Shui books state that the bedroom should not be larger than the living room. This is because the exchange of energy between a room and its occupants goes both ways: a larger bedroom requires more energy to fill, so when it is too large, the energy of the people occupying it can be depleted with effects such as depression, fatigue and insomnia.

Large adjoining bathrooms and closets directly connected to the bedroom increase this effect, since even more space is created that needs to be supported by the occupant. In this case, the door separating the bedroom from the bathroom should be kept closed.

When a bedroom is too small, Qi does not flow well and tends to stagnate, causing stagnated energy affecting the lives of the occupants. If you had to choose, it is better to have a smaller bedroom than an overly large one.

A bedroom with good Feng Shui has the following features:

  • Located in an area away from the most active parts of the home
  • Quiet, serene
  • Regularly shaped (rectangular or square)
  • Not too large or too small
  • Limited to having one door (close other doors and use curtains over glass doors)
  • Bright and airy and well ventilated
  • Has medium to high ceilings
  • Avoids slanted ceilings
  • Does not have beams running across the bed
  • Exposed to adequate natural light

When it comes to Feng Shui, love, and relationships, there is much more to say. So much in fact that I wrote a book about it called Feng Shui: Do You See What I See?

Until next time, here’s wishing you love and hugs with friends and loved ones on this special day that celebrates love.
