Welcome Water Rooster Month – September 2024 – The Power of Space
Hello, my friends, It’s September 2024, the month of Virgo and the Water Rooster in the year of the Wood Dragon. As we transition into this new season, I bring you thoughts and messages of peace, love and wholeness. Mahatma Gandhi describes my sentiment perfectly in his quote – “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Collectively, the energy of Water Rooster continues to be one of paying attention, managing our fears, and making conscious choices and committing. Committing to what though? The universe (or whatever your feel comfortable calling your higher self) is calling you. The universe is always speaking to us, and this month, it’s particularly important to pay attention to your dreams, visions, signs and gut feelings. Autumn has arrived, and winter is on its way. It’s time to consider what seeds you are planting to grow in the coming year. I encourage you to reflect on your life and think about what you can do in the next 18 months to 2 years to create a positive difference in your life and in the lives of others. Even when the world seems to be a crazy and unsafe place, we have the power to “consciously” create positive, supportive spaces where we can be safe and nurtured. These spaces allow us either to simply BE or MOVE FORWARD with strength and purpose. As the seasons change and we find ourselves spending more time indoors, I invite you to create a nurturing and happy space for yourself. Did you know that your home reflects your subconscious choices on a vibrational level? I see this every day in my work as a Feng Shui consultant. By consciously making a space that supports you, you can create an environment filled with love, healing that changes your life. I was really excited to come across an article that cites studies on the relationship between our environments and our cognitive abilities. The article explored the question: What is it that drives your decisions? Close your eyes and picture the hustle and bustle of a busy city street. Car horns are blaring, people rushing past you. You notice garbage and debris on the ground, and the street is flanked by buildings that seem to touch the sky. Now, instead imagine yourself in the middle of an open meadow. The sunlight warms your shoulders, tall grass sways gently in the breeze and you hear the chirping of birds and the subtle buzzing of bees. How did you feel during each of these visualizations? The difference between these situations is stark, and odds are, so is your psychological and physiological response to these environments. The benefits of nature are well documented, and it is now common knowledge that we are genetically wired to have an intuitive response to our surroundings. But just how connected are we to the environments we are in? How deeply do they impact us mentally, emotionally and physically? These are questions that Classical Feng Shui answers. Studies has shown that students perform better on exams when the windows have a view of green landscapes versus a wall or parking lot. Perhaps this is why many innovative companies like Facebook, Google and Microsoft have designed campuses with open, expansive spaces. The art and science of Classical Feng Shui has known for centuries that our built environment influences spatial cognition and, consequently, performance. Now, the western world and modern science are beginning to produce research to support that. A famous quote by Winston Churchill that I love illustrates this “We shape our buildings and thereafter they shape us.” The spaces we live in shape our lives; they influence our feelings, which in turn impacts our behaviour, thinking, and productivity. My favourite projects involve working with clients, developers, architects and urban planners who are “aware” of these principles and wish to create win / win solutions to create spaces that not only generate profit but also support people to live better and more fulfilling lives. The universe is always sending us clues and astrology is one way to interpret them. The Chinese month of the Water Rooster begins on September 7th. The I Ching hexagram connected to the Water Rooster is #53, Gradual Progress. One of the tests this month is how you respond when people don’t support you. Will you give up on your dreams, or will you r “chop wood, carry water” and see this as an opportunity for positive change? Take one conscious step forward at a time, and you will see positive results. For more detailed information on the monthly energy, join us in my membership group, Living with Purpose, on September 8th, where I will go in-depth into astrological insights for both the collective and individual signs.
